“Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!”
The Gift of Refuge
Refuge refers to shelter or safety. It is a place where trust abounds, often out of desperation. So many sought refuge in Jesus, but perhaps one of the most desperate was the bleeding woman.
She had been ailing for twelve years, and no doctor had been able to cure her. She saw Jesus walking and thought to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
Jesus saw her and said, “Take heart, daughter, your faith has healed you.” The woman was healed in that very moment! (Matthew 9:20-22)
This woman had so much trust in our Savior that she knew only a slight brush against his clothes would offer her healing. She sought refuge in him out of complete desperation and Christ delivered. He healed her! Picture the joy she received from knowing who Christ was and what he could offer her. She surely tasted and saw his goodness.
What is ailing you, sweet friend? Have you sought refuge in Christ? He has promised us wonderful protection through his spirit! Forgiveness and eternal life (Acts 2:38), great fruit (Galatians 5:22), and armor fit for defeating Satan (Ephesians 6:10-20).
Take refuge in him today! In Jesus, you will find shelter, safety, comfort, and healing.
Prayer Over Our Hearts
Father God,
What a mighty and good God you are! Thank you for giving us refuge. May we look to you always! In Jesus’ name, Amen
