Do you remember the parable of the bags of gold? This story, found in Matthew 25, is sometimes more commonly known as the parable of the talents. In it, a master gives three servants varying amounts of money. To the first servant, he gives five bags of gold. To the second, he gives two bags of gold. The third servant receives one bag of gold.
When the master returns from his journey, he assembles the servants to give him an accounting of the talents entrusted to them. The first servant took a chance with the master’s money and earned five more bags. Likewise, the second servant doubled his money. However, the third servant was afraid to take a risk and so he buried the money he was responsible for.
The master was angry that the third servant had wasted the opportunity he had been given with his talents, and so he took away all the servant’s responsibility.
What do you think that servant felt when he realized his foolishness? When he understood that he should have used the talents he had been given? Do you think he regretted not taking the chance of using his talents?
From this story, we can draw the parallel that God has blessed us all with amazing gifts that we can put to use in so many ways. Nothing we do for Him is too small. He can take our smallest offering and multiply it in amazing ways.
Just like the little drummer boy, sometimes we think that we don’t have a gift that we can use in God’s kingdom. Or maybe we feel that our gift isn’t important enough. As you listen to this song, think about what gifts and talents you have.
How will you use the gifts He has blessed you with for His glory?
