I love surprises! Don’t you? I get the biggest kick out of surprising people with something I know they will love.
That’s why I had been looking for a way to surprise my husband by taking him to a Matt Maher concert all summer. I found concerts in all the surrounding states – Kansas, Arkansas, and Texas but none of the dates worked with our schedule.
Then, out of the blue, I saw that Matt Maher was going to be in concert only fifteen minutes from our house in Oklahoma! I was so excited!
My hubby had no clue where we were going or what we would be doing, which made the surprise even more exciting! It wasn’t until we walked up to the concert venue and he saw Matt Maher’s name that it finally dawned on him what we were doing and then he got really excited. My husband loves concerts but even more so, he really appreciates many of Matt Maher’s songs, which bring worship to the forefront and uplift the soul.
Our favorite song, perhaps one could even say the song that has kept us focused on our Savior when so many crazy things have been happening this summer is “Because He Lives (Amen)!“ Through all the joys and challenges, it is truly a song that we can belt out and praise the Lord no matter what is happening. It lifts our hearts as we lift our voices together to our amazing Lord and Savior. It is so powerful! If you are not already singing it in your head, you should listen to it right now.
The concert was so awesome. Matt Maher and his band played with such passion and to be able to worship together with them was great. He is amazing not only on the guitar but on the piano as well. I swear his fingers can fly!
We got to hear some of our older favorites like “Hold Us Together” and some new favorites like “Deliverer” (this is a live clip from the OKC show), “A Future Not My Own“, “Glory Bound“ and so many more from his newest album Saints & Sinners.
The night ended with an encore and a complete blessing. As the band packed up to move onto another show and city, a mother and son walked up to the stage and started talking with Mitch Parks, the bass guitarist. The next thing I knew Mitch asked if he could pray over them. It was such a touching thing to witness.
I ended up speaking with the mom and son too. Come to find out that this awesome, energetic boy, who prefers being called “Cat Army General,” had a really rare form of cancer called LCH and had undergone a year of chemo. We too got to lift him up in prayer and praise God for the fact that his cancer is now gone. The mother was blown away by the fact that Mitch had taken time when he heard her son’s story to pray over him and give thanks to God for delivering “Cat Army General” from cancer!
I love witnessing God’s love in action – through song, prayer & God’s people being his hands and feet! It was such an uplifting night and now we get to share a bit of it with you!
