“Thank You”
Two words that we teach our children almost from birth. Why do we find them so difficult to say? I do not mean when someone gives us something or does something for us. That is easy to say thank you to. I am talking about when someone compliments us.
I hope it is not just me. When someone compliments something I am wearing I always make a comment about how old it is or that I got it on a great sale. I never just say, “Thank you.” If someone compliments me on something I have done like playing a piano special at church, I make a comment on how I made a mistake. I have been told that I am a great cook. Very seldom do I ever say, “Thank you,” to compliments on my cooking. I always have to say that my grandmother was a better cook or where I got the recipe. Sometimes I have even said some really stupid things. I never just say, “Thank you.”
Why is it so hard for us to take a compliment? I believe part of it is because we do not feel worthy, especially women. We have a tendency to see only our flaws. We focus on the bad and not the good qualities we have. Perhaps we might even feel like we are never good enough.
Satan Uses Our Insecurities as His Tool
Satan likes for us to feel this way. He likes to tear us down. He likes us to feel worthless. If we feel bad about ourselves, then it is hard for us to show God’s love.
God has really convicted me of this lately. He has shown me that I am worthy; I am good enough. Please join me in accepting compliments and just say, “Thank you.”
Do you say, “Thank you?”
Do you feel unworthy of compliments?

This is so relevant for me right now! you’re certainly not alone – I’ve recently had a few speaking opportunities and afterwards I struggled accepting the compliment and I simply didn’t know how to respond. Thank you for this post!
I’m glad it helped. I knew I wasn’t alone. I actually witnessed a friend do the same thing. Sometimes it’s so hard to just say thank you.
you’d think something so simple as this that we wouldn’t even have a issue but it’s true. we often stumble of how to reply when a thank you is all we need.
Yes, just say thank you.
This is so true! I think as women, we sometimes buy into those lies of Satan that we are not good enough, or pretty enough or thin enough and so on. Saying thank you assures that we know who we are in Christ. Thanks for posting. – Amy

It’s hard to see our worthiness.
Something I’m learning how to do
It’s difficult. I believe with practice, it will get easier.
I struggle with this so much! I try to say thank you but often find ways around the compliments!
It’s been a struggle for me, too. I will be praying for you.
Dear Lord, I thank You for Grace and her willingness to see herself as worthy. Remind her daily that she is worthy and all she needs to say is thank you. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
What a great reminder. Yes, we should grow in this area of accepting compliments graciously.
Yes. This is difficult for me.
