As I turned on the television this morning, a Bible verse came to mind:
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)
An Act of Pure Evil
The news this morning was about the shooting in Las Vegas. The information is still sketchy, but it appears this was a man acting alone. Pure evil overtook him that he might commit such a horrendous act, the worst mass shooting in the history of our nation.
There are so many questions but not many answers. We do know that this world is full of evil. Satan roams the earth causing death and destruction. This is what he wants, chaos and fear.
Good in the Midst of Tragedy
Fortunately, in the midst of tragedy, there are always stories of good. So many cared for the injured and dying, rushing to their vehicles to drive them to the hospital. There were people who took in those running into their rooms and cars. Some stayed with the dying so they would not be alone. There were the police that put their lives on the line to go in after the gunman and those that helped and sheltered the concert goers. There was Good there. God was there! God is always there!
The stories coming out are heartbreaking. The images are horrific. We may never know why this happened. Just know that the devil is here seeking to destroy what God has created.
Prayer for Las Vegas
Dear Lord, we live in a fallen world. We know that this world is not our home. Through Your Word, we know that You love us and You sent Your Son to die for our sins. We know that the devil roams this earth, seeking to destroy. Help us to be Your Light in this world. Be with those who have lost loved ones. Comfort them and give them peace in their grief from this tragedy. Be with those who have been injured and help them make a full recovery. Be with the medical staff treating the injured and give them strength and wisdom. Lord, there are so many that need You now. Help us to all lean on You for our strength. We love You, Lord. In Your Son’s Holy and Precious Name we pray, Amen.

My daughter lives in Las Vegas. It was so frightening to wake up to that news. She is safe but my heart goes out to all the sons and daughters who lost their lives and their parents who must now grieve.
I know that feeling. We went through that with the Oklahoma state university homecoming,
those frantic moments when everything seems to stop. Glad everything is good with your daughter. We must continue to pray for this world.
My heart has been so heavy for everyone in Las Vegas! This world is full of evil! That is why God’s people have to stand up today and fight the enemy at hand!! Wonderful post!
Thank you.
We live in a fallen world, and evil is all around us. We have to remember that our war isn’t against flesh and blood, but against forces we cannot see.
So true.
At times when we feel like the world doesn’t make sense we have to realize there are forces so much bigger than us at play. My heart breaks for everyone in Las Vegas and all the people that have been effected. I pray that the message does not get focused in the wrong areas. This is primarily a heart problem and mental health problem – two areas that Satan preys on. Thank you for the post.
Yes, we have pushed God aside.
We really need to pray for God’s presence in our lives in at this point now. There is so much that is happening around us. I have thinking of late about how sometimes we don’t even put God in the equation as we seek solutions to our problems yet He is the answer
He is who we should go to first!
Yes, Lord… We ask that You use this tragedy to wake people up to look to You and stop living for temporal things. We ask for revival!
Amen!
So sadden by the evil in this world. My heart goes out to all the family and friends that have been impacted by the sudden loss of their loved ones.
What this man in Las Vegas did is pure evil. The point to keep in mind here is that humanity—not God—is responsible for sin. -Pastor Greg Laurie
So true.
