Is music the rhythm of your life? Why not share the love of music early with your infant, toddler or preschool aged children and do it in such a way that incorporates family, fun and learning?
Gracenote Family Music hosts a wonderful class called Music Together®, which is “Bringing Harmony Home.®”
This past fall, my children and I had the opportunity to enjoy the Music Together Class. The whole point of the class is to bring grownups and the children they love together to grow more in love with music. This class was led by Heather Hoffines, the owner of Gracenote Family Music, and Leah Sherma.

I was a little concerned at first, because my two younger children, ages 4 & 2, don’t always like to sit and are quite hyper. Thankfully, the very first time one of my children decided to run around, Heather encouraged me to allow them to enjoy themselves. Whew! Thank you for letting this momma relax and have fun with it too! It is a great chance to have fun & be silly together!
The children are encouraged to explore the music by:
- Moving their bodies to the music through dancing, jumping, clapping, parachuting, etc.
- Learning the speeds, tones, and sounds of the music.
- Interacting with all sorts of instruments. (During the class, they put out a pile of instruments and the children get to play as many as they want.)
- Understanding how different sounds are part of early language skills.
- And so much more!
Here are a few examples of what we learned in class:
Resources for Home
My children and I had so much fun in this class and they so enjoyed playing with all the different instruments, that their stockings were filled with music eggs and bells so that we could continue learning with this music at home.
Yes, so not only are the classes loads of fun but they do really want you to bring this home. To encourage this, they supply you with a wonderful book of all the songs that are covered in the class and a CD that allows you to play the music at home. There are also other resources like an app, access to the Family Music Zone, Facebook community, & newsletter that they encourage you to engage in as well.
An Inter-generational Class Option
Gracenote Famliy Music offers this wonderful Music Together® Class in several locations throughout the OKC area, but if your schedule permits, I would encourage you to attend the multi-generational class that is held at the Teal Real Retirement Community in Edmond, OK.
Being able to play along with an older generation was so much fun. We even had the opportunity to enjoy their company after the class was over and that was quite a treat for us and them!
