Start a Fire
Do you ever hear songs on the radio but you do not actually listen to them? I do it all the time. I hear the music but I do not pay much attention to the words. Recently, I was listening to the radio while driving and “Start a Fire” by Unspoken came on. As I began singing along, the words just hit me.
Start a fire in my soul,
Fan the flame and make it grow.
So there’s no doubt or denying.
Let it burn so brightly
That everyone around can see,
That it’s You, that it’s You that we need.
Start a fire in me.
When did we lose our fire?
As children, we learned “This Little Light of Mine.”
This little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine,
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.Hide it under a bushel? No!
I’m gonna let it shine.
Hide it under a bushel? No!
I’m gonna let it shine.
Hide it under a bushel? No!
I’m gonna let it shine,
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
Is Your Light Shining?
These songs have the same basic message, so we have learned this from an early age. Is our light shining? Do we share the love of God with people who come across our path? What does this look like? Shining your light can look like kind words or actions to people we know or people we do not know. Encourage those who are having difficulties. Mow a neighbor’s lawn. Babysit for a friend. Of course, these do not have to be overtly “Christian” acts. We shine our light by words and deeds. We should be asking God to put in us a fire burns so brightly that our light shines for all to see.

Can take a lot of courage to let your light shine. Starting a blog, I knew some of my family would not like the Christian content, but letting my light shine is more important than making everyone happy.
So true!
Showing the love of God to others – and letting Him shine through us….
Yes!
This is one of my favorite songs! It’s such a good reminder that no matter we are going through, we can shine for our Lord!
Give praise in the good times and the bad!
I love this! Shining our light is so important, and can be as easy as smiling to brighten someone’s day.
Yes, there are so many things that we can do that may seem small to us can make a huge difference to others.
I’m always praying for more boldness so I can be more vocal about my light.
It can be difficult, but prayer will help. The more we practice, the easier gets.
Dear Lord, we come before You asking that You give us boldness to let our lights shine for You. We love You Lord and we want to share Your Love with others. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
I love this song! “Do we share the love of God with people who come across our path?” you ask. Yes!! I feel that Americans are cold-hearted and individualistic compared to the Hispanics I grew up with, but I try to love everyone who comes into my life.
If we were to all share God’s Love, the world would definitely be a better place.
I just lost a really good friend bc I let my light shine, but I look at it this way, someday she will want this light that I have and then it may be to late, in the mean time I will pray for her
Oh my. Yes, we must shine our light. People will remember. I will pray with you.
Dear Lord, Terri let her light shine and lost her friend. Let her friend see you in her and turn towards You. She doesn’t want to see her friend perish and wants reconciliation. She has her heart in the right place and cares for this friend. Continue to work in this friend’s life to draw her to You. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
I love that song! I don’t think I’ve ever heard it before. Thanks for reminding us to live like we’re on fire.
Imagine what we could accomplish if we did.
I love this! Thanks so much. Lord, start a fire in me!
Yes! In all of us!
It takes courage to let our lights shine. After all it means people will see us!
So true! We need to step out of our comfort zone.
